As romance writers we often work to include the world we see around us into our stories. The question becomes how do we realistically portray a character who has had a different life experience than our own due to the color of their skin, their sexual orientation, their country of origin, physical or mental abilities, or their religion? It's far too easy to fall into the trap of stereotyping because that's what we've been taught. Our responsibility as storytellers is to do our best to get it right.
